The two-minute skincare routine for men who hate skincare

by Bo van Rijzewijk

You don't need 12 steps. You don't need a shelf full of products. You don't need to spend 20 minutes in the bathroom every morning.

Here's what you actually need — and why.

Why most men avoid skincare

The skincare industry has done a remarkable job of making things complicated. Cleansers, toners, essences, serums, eye creams, moisturisers, SPF, retinol, AHA, BHA — the language alone is enough to make most men close the browser.

This complexity isn't accidental. More products means more revenue. A 12-step routine sells more than a 3-step routine. Complexity creates dependency.

The truth is that effective skincare for most men requires three products and about two minutes per day. Everything else is optional.

The actual routine

Step 01 — Vitamin C Serum (30 seconds)

After washing your face in the morning, apply 3–4 drops of a 15% Vitamin C serum to dry skin. Press it in gently — don't rub. Wait 45–60 seconds for it to absorb.

This step delivers antioxidant protection against UV and pollution damage, stimulates collagen production, and gradually evens skin tone. It's the highest-impact single product you can use.

Step 02 — Moisturiser (30 seconds)

Immediately after the serum, apply two pumps of moisturiser to your face and neck. A good men's moisturiser should absorb in under a minute with no greasy residue.

If you shave in the morning, do it before this step. Your moisturiser doubles as a post-shave balm — look for allantoin and panthenol in the ingredients list.

Step 03 — Collagen Peptides (10 seconds)

Add one scoop of collagen peptides to your morning coffee or water. Stir. Done. This step works from the inside out — providing the building blocks your skin needs to maintain its structure over time.

Total time: approximately two minutes.

That's it. No toner. No essence. No eye cream. No 8-step Korean routine. Just three products that address the three things your skin actually needs: antioxidant protection, hydration, and structural support.

What about SPF?

If you're spending extended time outdoors, add SPF over your moisturiser. This is the one exception to the three-product rule — UV exposure is the single largest accelerator of visible skin ageing, and no serum or supplement can undo the damage of chronic sun exposure.

For daily city life, the antioxidant protection from 15% Vitamin C provides meaningful UV mitigation. For beach days, add SPF 30 or higher.

The long game

Skincare results don't appear overnight. The Vitamin C needs 4–6 weeks of consistent use to visibly affect skin tone. The collagen peptides need 8–12 weeks to show structural benefits.

The two-minute routine only works if you actually do it every day. Consistency beats intensity.
